After a lapse of a decade and a half, I’ve rediscovered my love of fishkeeping, that started when I was a kid. I’m no professional, but over the course of my life, I’ve learned a lot about keeping cichlids healthy and happy. I created this site to share that knowledge.

Why I Created This Site

One of my earliest memories has to do with fish. When I was a child, my mother bought me a tiny tank, and 2 fish to match.

I can remember sitting for many hours, watching them swim through the tank. Now I look back on it, they weren’t the fish with the most exciting antics, but they were enough to spark my imagination.

My father had a job where we moved around a lot, so we didn’t stay in one place for more than a few years. One of the houses I lived in had a running stream down the back. My mother and I would go fishing, but not in the traditional sense. We didn’t take fishing lines or poles, we took nets. We’d try to catch something, but when we did, it wasn’t for dinner.

If it looked interesting, we’d put it in my bucket and take it home. We’d put it in the aquarium, and look after it.

I think my mother encouraging me to keep fish taught me some valuable lessons in my earlier years. It taught me to have responsibility. Having fish taught me to look after something that was in my care. It showed me the value of looking after other people and animals.

After loving fish keeping for all of my childhood, I grew up, and my hobby disappeared. So it stayed that way for many years, more than a decade, in fact. Until one day.

We were cleaning, helping my mother move, and in one room, there was a whole bunch of things that had been there for many years. Almost like your grandmother’s attic. One of the items I found was none other than… My old fish aquarium! To say the least, I was surprised.

But that’s what caused all the memories to come flooding back. That is what restarted my interest in fish-keeping. So here I am today.

I created this site to help other people learn the information I’ve learned. I also aim to create the best informational cichlid resource on the internet.

Hopefully, I can reduce the amount of time you spend researching by having everything you need to know in one place.
